Doug:
So, it’s the holidays, right? It’s the end of the year. We thought we would do a little bit of a recap of the year.
Liz:
So, this is the end of season one. We will be bringing you season two in 2022.
Doug:
So, 2021 was a great year for The Seller Community Podcast from List Perfectly. I’ve said this before, but I’m super appreciative that you agreed to do this with me and that you made the connections and you made it happen. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you. So, thank you. And it’s been a great year and you are an amazing podcast partner.
Liz:
Well, thank you so much, but I will be remiss if I don’t say thank you for keeping me on your shortlist of people to contact. I’m sorry that the first five said no <laugh>, but I’m here for you.
Doug:
That’s not true. You were always at the top of the list. It took some convincing…
Liz:
When we started this podcast in 2021, and we tell our story of how we started. And it was 100% podcast Doug that made this all happen. Thanks for keeping me on your short list.
Doug:
You were at the top of the list, Liz. We actually started in December with rehearsals and trying different things and experimenting and Theresa Cox was our Guinea pig. And we did a sample episode with her that we wound up using and then just, you know, kind of learned the way. You know, for me early on, I thought we were probably packing too much in, so then we started focusing on the main interview and the news and, you know, that seemed popular. I think, early on, I did a little heavier editing than I do now. I think it’s a little more conversational. Now I try to leave that, we kind of learned some of the things that worked and didn’t work, but it’s been a good year and I’m looking forward to season two.
Liz:
And just to go off of what you said, yes, we learned, we grew, but what I love is we’re flexible and we’re gonna continue to grow and learn and meet the needs of our community the best we can.
Doug:
I think that’s a big part of it is, you know, we’ve been told people love us for what we talk about, the stories that we tell the interviews we do, the seller news that we give them the List Perfectly news and resources. And we are from List Perfectly, but we’re not fully focused on List Perfectly. We’re fully focused on the seller community. And so that’s always been the goal. Should we get into it?
Liz:
Let’s get on with the show. Doug, this is episode 46 of The Seller Community Podcast from List Perfectly.
Doug:
The Seller Community Podcast is brought to you by List Perfectly every week for your enjoyment and listening pleasure and show notes are always found at list perfectly.com/podcast. Welcome, Liz, to the recap episode.
Liz:
Thank you. Thank you for having me on today, Doug.
Doug:
You’re welcome.
Liz:
Thank you for including me on this journey of our recap.
Doug:
I love all our children, Liz. There are probably a few, maybe a few that stood out for different reasons. And I really, the early episodes were fun because I think we did well, but we were trying to find our way and we grew kind of quickly. And I like that. Obviously for me, coming from eBay, having a lot of eBay people on that was big for me, Griff really was a standout having him on because I wouldn’t be where I am with any of this. I learned all this from Griff and, you know, being with him on the eBay for Business Podcast, having some of the other eBay people on that we will touch on was just a big deal for me because it was nice to know we were on eBay’s radar. I mean, they wouldn’t do it if they didn’t think that we had some value to the community.
Liz:
2021 was an amazing year, amazing podcast guests. I hesitate because they’re all my favorite. For a marketplace like eBay, to be able to come onto our new podcast and allow members of eBay staff to come on and talk to us and talk about community, and you know, things like VERO and government relations, I think was a huge step. And I appreciate eBay for that. Now I know you come from eBay. I started selling on eBay. I’m a native eBay seller. I know we leaned heavily on eBay and really, it’s the platform that responded to us. Whenever we reached out, they’re like, of course we can do this. And there’s other platforms that did too. And we’ll talk about that in a moment. I’m in awe that eBay’s like, “sure we’ll come on your podcast,” you asked we did it. But speaking of that, you know, from the high level area and earning trust is a, in the first year, you know, industry CEOs. Exactly. We talked about eBay coming on. Let’s look back at episode 41 when the CEO and co-founder of Kidizen agreed to come on our podcast. Thank you, Dori.
Doug:
And she had a chance to come on, talk about the platform, talk about how they’re involved in their community. Talk about like the Style Scouts and then also address some of the concerns that she’s seen. Like she talked about people don’t understand their pricing model and she got to address that. So that was a good opportunity. Great interview. And I learned a lot about Kidizen that I didn’t really know. It’s much more than kids clothes, so I don’t wanna say just kids clothes, but a lot more than that.
Liz:
Yeah. And then we take a look at episode 36, Eddie, CEO of Size.Ly sitting down and talking to the CEOs of List Perfectly Clara and Amanda who have also given their time to the podcast to tell their story.
Doug:
The List Perfectly partnership with Size.ly is great for me, selling clothing is super intimidating because of the measurements. And Size.ly pretty much solves that problem. So, Liz, I can sell those Frozen 2 shirts that are sitting in a bin behind me.
Liz:
Which are still sitting in your unlisted bin behind you, is that what you’re trying to say?
Doug:
Waiting for Frozen 3.
Liz:
In your inventory management system, you know where they’re at. So that’s…<laugh>
Doug:
I can picture them in my feeble brain. And then what you touched on too, is obviously we had Clara and Amanda on a couple times. Yeah. Talking about their story, talking about List Perfectly, how List Perfectly came about. And, you know, just emphasizing the fact that they are CEO sellers, experienced sellers and the reasoning for List Perfectly. Where it came from is like Clara had a need for a listing tool. Amanda developed it for her and then they got to some point where they thought, well, a cross post tool would be so valuable to other sellers and then it’s just grown from there. And wait, Liz. I don’t wanna tease too much, but I think we will have some more CEOs on in 2022.
Liz:
Yeah. More CEOs, more industry experts, more platform specific and employees. To talk really, to really get down to the nitty gritty of some of the platforms that most of us sellers are using every single day that we get questions on. And I’m looking forward to that alongside our expert sellers and sellers from our community that are out doing great things and have grown and that share their experiences with our community because you don’t have to be an industry expert, platform staff, or a CEO to understand how this business works. We use our own personal experiences, which we share throughout most of our episodes this past year, which I am super proud of all of the guests that we have on. But I think that they all kind of fall into different categories in my heart. Right. So, the ones nearest and dearest in my heart are the sellers that we got to interview and hear their stories. And I’ve learned from so many.
Doug:
And I think that’s the meat and potatoes of the podcast, the seller stories. And that’s always been so awesome to me about the seller community, just all the stories and all the interesting things beyond selling online, the other things that sellers do, or the tips that they have, or the perspective that they have. Well, let me ask you this, Liz. Back to CEOs. So, we actually have a couple in the works, but I have a goal. I wanna get Iannone on. So, can you call him up and make that happen?
Liz:
Right, sure thing. <Laugh> how about it?
Doug:
So, in case you don’t remember, Liz was picked for eBay Open Online 2021to interview eBay CEO, Jamie Iannone. And I would like to get him on.
Liz:
That was crazy.
Doug:
Yeah. That was crazy. You did a great job though.
Liz:
Thank you. It still just seems like it feels like it’s not real. Like I didn’t do that. Like I was just watching this play out. It was so crazy.
Doug:
But Liz did that. It was great. And that was part of Liz’s 2021. Jamie Iannone might be tough. I’ll bet we could get Jordan Sweetnam on though. Make a couple calls. He’ll come on. Let’s do it. Let’s go back to the eBay staff that we had on. So, let’s talk about Sharon McBride. Government relations is a great program. You’ve been involved in it. And it’s a great thing that eBay does to advocate for sellers, but not just eBay sellers, it’s sellers across the board, all platforms and all the platforms work together in government relations. And Sharon is very involved in that and just such a nice gracious lady.
Liz:
Yeah. And I think it’s very important. The work that her and her team does is extremely important for resellers. And I still encourage sellers to go out there and check out eBay Main Street. I mean, they’re not just advocating for multimillion dollar industry sellers, they are advocating for sellers like me and you and those listening of all sizes. I mean, we can get into this, but we’re all facing the new tax laws and they’re helping guide us through that. And they help advocate these policies to best help online sellers. And I hope that our listeners learned that these programs are out there for us.
Doug:
Yeah, exactly. And then Griff. Having Griff on again was a big deal for me, but his story is so cool in terms of the seller community. Because basically, I mean he started eBay customer service. He basically started seller community. He could be humble about it, but eBay was really the first online seller community and he basically started it and just, his experience over the years and he still sells, but he’s basically the OG community, the Snoop Dog of <laugh> online community.
Liz:
It was amazing to be able to sit down and talk to Griff because he’s just the legend, right. If you’ve been on eBay for any amount of time or, you know, started out in the beginning, you know, Griff. So that was really cool to be able to talk to him and listen to his story live directly from him. You know, he’s such an integral part of the eBay community, which leads right into Rebecca being from the community team to be able to come on, she started at eBay during the pandemic. So, she has never been out to even meet any of her coworkers or sellers.
Doug:
You know, frankly, she came in and a couple people left from the eBay community team. So, it was a big time of transition. And it was a big time of transition for eBay because it was early on in the pandemic, but she came on, she was really nice. Really great to come on and again, talk about plans that they had for eBay Open, and kind gave us a big kind of exclusive preview.
Liz:
Yeah, it was really cool. I’m looking forward to getting to meet her because I will get to meet her in person in January. She will be at the Denver/Colorado Springs joint meetup in January. It will be her first time meeting sellers in person. And I’m super excited for it.
Doug:
Yeah. It’s gonna be cool. And then Liz, the controversial VERO episode. Well, that was a big one because Julian came on. VERO is a touchy subject on both sides of the board. And he came on and again, he was happy to come on, had a chance to clear up some misperceptions about VERO.
Liz:
So, VERO is the verified rights owner program that is specific to eBay.
Doug:
And what happens is, brands come in and, you know, if they think that there’s brand misuse, they can basically report it to eBay. And then the way it’s supposed to work is this seller is connected to the brand and they work together kind of to work it out. There is a list of brands that have guidelines that they post, but there’s not like a VERO list. Everybody talks about the VERO list…
Liz:
A list semi exists. And the only list that is available are those companies that choose to make their policies with guidelines on the eBay site. So, it doesn’t mean that it’s an inclusive and exclusive list.
Doug:
And Julian did tell us he’s very fair. He even had to shut down his mom, right? She was using stock photos to list something on eBay. And he told her she couldn’t do it. He told me that my clever Dollar Store Lego compatible mention could technically be a violation. He said Lego would not like that. So that was a learning experience. Gotta be careful what you say.
Liz:
You know, it was great to learn a lot about VERO, hopefully clear up some misconceptions, but I’ll be honest, even as a longtime seller that sells many brands there, I have to stop and scratch my head and just say, “I don’t know.” And we feel that, right. Like if you’re a seller out there listening to this saying, “oh, I didn’t believe any of that.” Or “they don’t really know. They don’t really know out in the trenches.” And I get it. I mean, I see it in our community, but this is the best guideline that we have to go by. It’s not a perfect system, and I don’t think that I’ve ever experienced perfection on any platform that I’ve sold on or any brick and mortar store that I’ve shopped at or any eTail site that I’ve shopped on. I think that it all kinda, we just do the best that we can with the knowledge that we have.
Doug:
And it’s complicated. I mean, that whole thing is a complicated issue still. And brands treat it differently…
Liz:
And you know, well, it really is because it stems from a federal law that they have to follow.
Doug:
All right, Liz, so let’s move on to, this is an interesting category, recurring guests. So, I didn’t know this. I didn’t know that we have a guest and I wonder if she knows this, the numbersgeek, Theresa Cox, who’s very into numbers, very into analytics. She’s been on the most four episodes, 4 14, 27 and 38. Theresa Cox. Congratulations Theresa.
Liz:
I think that was her goal for 2021. Also, it wasn’t a sales goal. It wasn’t a platform goal. I think her goal was to be the most aired guest on The Seller Community Podcast. I’m pretty sure she texted that to me actually. I’ll see if I can find that.
Doug:
It wouldn’t surprise me. She’s very ambitious. But that is a lofty accolade, Liz, high praise. And yeah, she came on and talked about her seller journey. She came on and talked about BOSS Reseller Remix, and then we’ve had her on a couple other times and some panels, we’ve talked about having her back on to talk about inventory as well. She’s got a great inventory system. You learned from her, and I learned from you. So, it kind of filtered down. Like the Kung Fu type of thing. She’s roaming the world getting into adventures. And then we should do this…
Liz:
What’s that Doug?
Doug:
Well, Saturday Night Live has the five and club. So, if you’ve hosted five or more times, you get a velvet jacket. I think we need to come up with a velvet jacket for, I don’t know though, I’m looking at our list and we’ve got a few guests that have been on three times. So maybe we do the three and up club.
Liz:
Maybe they get a special sticker or a special hoodie.
Doug:
<Laugh> not a velvet jacket, but a special sticker. A number three, three plus.
Liz:
Right, right. A five plus club, we’ll have to up it. I don’t know.
Doug:
Patrick from List Perfectly is always a popular guest.
Liz:
Yeah. He’s been on The Seller Community Podcast three times in episode 25, 28 and 42 to bring us List Perfectly updates.
Doug:
But Patrick is always good. I think we’re gonna have Patrick on regularly to drop those little List Perfectly golden tickets. As he says, he was kind of anonymous in his first episode. But you know, if you, if you listened regularly, you would probably figure out the secret.
Liz:
The feedback from our community is they appreciate having Patrick on to hear these updates.
Doug:
Well, and it’s always a great reminder that, you know, you can submit features to List Perfectly. You can make suggestions and Patrick personally reviews them all. And he said, you know, even if it’s a small thing, they put it in the possibility docket. And then, you know, even though they’ve been on separately and they’ve been on together, Vikki and Katy, Vikki Eagan, Katy Zilverberg have been on to talk about their own seller journeys. And they’ve been on together to talk about BOSS Reseller Remix, which was an event we were involved in as well. We broadcasted there. We recorded there. We didn’t broadcast.
Liz:
Well, we were very involved. That’s true with the community aspect with it, and I love that.
Doug:
We moderated a community panel. They were on three times each respectively. Two crossover eps. And then obviously our friend Maria thestylister has come on a couple times. She talked about fashion selling in one episode and then talked about branding in another episode, because that’s a presentation she did at eBay Open.
Liz:
So, it was great having Maria on to talk about those two different aspects of selling.
Doug:
And what was interesting too, is she, I think Liz, early on addressed how she pivoted her business and that kind of helped her with supply chain issues. She was selling high end fashion, but when the pandemic came in, she had to shift to mostly handbags. But I think some shoes as well.
Liz:
So, industry expert and a recurring guest, Dave Snyder was able to join us to talk to us all about eBay SEO. And I will say Doug, his episodes are our most downloaded episodes.
Doug:
Yeah. His first one especially is by far the most downloaded episode. And it’s interesting because he has an interesting perspective, frankly, not every seller agrees with his perspective. From a pure SEO perspective, it makes sense. And then he digs deeper, really deep into the eBay SEO side of things. And what I like too is like some of the advice he gives is applicable across the board across all platforms, but he does emphasize that he is eBay SEO specific. So that’s basically the search engine optimization for your listings and it’s important stuff that not a lot of sellers think about, but he’s a great resource and again, a very, very popular guest. And frankly I think even within List Perfectly shifted a little bit for perception on the, you know, eBay listing side.
Liz:
This is why I really liked having Dave on, as I hear a lot in our community “Oh, but your SEO has to be good” and then it stops at that. And then people are like, “well, okay. Yeah, I’m gonna get my SEO.” And without really understanding what SEO or search engine optimization means for each platform form or that it could be different for each platform and different for standalone search engines. You know, I really like that he got into the meat and potatoes and was very open about that. “This Is for eBay. And this is what I focus on”, and you know, he really goes in and breaks down SEO versus algorithm. It kind of gets mixed up in our community when we talk about it on the surface level. I love that he was able to come back and clear up anything and really talk deep dive SEO for eBay.
Doug:
Yeah, exactly. And that, you know, those are great eps. Give them a listen. Then we had my good friend Tracey Lee Davis on, and I’ve done a couple presentations with her at various eBay Opens on social media, social media for sellers. She’d been on the eBay for Business podcast a couple times, and she came on and basically talked about social media and marketing for online sellers.
Liz:
It was a great episode. I will tell you, you know, that’s kind of how I figured out who you were Doug. I remember being at eBay Open. I was like, “oh my gosh, Tracey Lee Davis was just on stage with some guy from eBay and she just gave this really great presentation. And then that one guy, you know, said his words too.” And then that’s when I was like, “oh well,” and I met you. I was like, “oh you were the guy that was on stage with Tracey Lee Davis.”
Doug:
Yes. In your favorite <laugh> presentation.
Liz:
Yes. no, but it was great to be able to talk to her on the podcast and have her share with our audience.
Doug:
And she’s from Zing Pop social media and she’s got a lot of free resources that are available. So same thing with Dave Snyder from List Rank Sell. He’s got a lot of resources, you know, if you wanna learn more about eBay SEO, he does go deep, deeper than probably most sellers would want to go. But it’s good to, it’s good to have that understanding. The meat and potatoes of The Seller Community Podcast are the sellers and the seller stories. Yes. And then, you know, we’ve had a bunch of sellers on across the board, many that are maybe known for a certain platform, but a lot of them at this point are expanding or have expanded. And a lot of it is because List Perfectly has helped them expand. I loved having Sarge and Reds on because I’ve done some stuff with Sarge and like we sourced some Star Wars stuff together. And I love their story that they kind of did the reverse of what a lot of sellers do is they started online and then opened a brick and mortar and told us their story, how they were able to adopt children by selling online, and it helped, so eBay helped them build a family. And now they’ve got this awesome brick and mortar store and Sarge is just like, and they work so well together and have such a great dynamic. And Sarge is just basically a big kid who loves toys.
Liz:
In December they opened their store and I’ve been able to follow their journey on YouTube and Instagram, which has been super cool. So, congratulations to them and you can hear more about them in episode 25.
Doug:
Liz, we always have fun. We always laugh. But for me there are a few episodes that kind of stand out as being a little funner where we laughed more, more fun. Beckyparkfromposhmark was a fun one. The Consignment Chats ladies, which was fun. We laughed a lot. We warmed up at the beginning and then stuck on with them at the end. We’re gonna do some more stuff with them in the future. Maggie Weber was fun. She’s very funny. And she’s got a book out about her experience in the retail world, but she was very funny. We laughed with her a lot and then one of my new favorites just came out. Rhonda Renfro, pinkdivastudio. We laughed a lot with her. She was great. That was a great interview. But what else stood out for you from our, the sellers we’ve had on?
Liz:
Going down the list, I mean, when we first started theposhkings came on episode seven. This is a really hard episode for me to do right now. So, for all of you listeners, because all of the episodes are my favorite. All of the guests are my favorite. So, this is so hard for me. But theposhkings was on episode seven, listen to the podcast. You know, my story, I started and quit Poshmark three times. It was something that theposhkings had said in an interview with Clara and Amanda on a webinar that clicked Poshmark for me. And I was able to get my closet up and running based on the information that they provided, something that they said clicked. So that was a super cool episode for me to record, especially an episode on a brand new podcast was super cool for me and going along with the whole Poshmark thing, Becky Park learning more about Poshmark, learning more about the Poshmark journey and more about what she provides to the community for Poshmark and beyond and sharing her journey, how she, her business and expanded beyond Poshmark. And then speaking of Poshmark Manal Saad on episode 34, she was a speaker at PoshFest and was able to come on and tell us a little bit more about her analytics and metrics, and really kind of go deep into that with Poshmark and to share her topic for PoshFest.
Doug:
That was cool for me too, because I think that’s something that isn’t touched on enough is metrics and analytics. It’s like, and a lot of sellers don’t even think about, but she went deep into that and it’s just kinda like there are metrics available that can help you grow your business, you know, and basically look at what works and what doesn’t work, do more of what works.
Liz:
Yeah. And speaking of what works. So, another super fun episode, imagine that, Doug. Yeah, my favorite. Right? Cuz they’re all my favorite. They’re all super fun. Courtney Hayes, BOLO Buddies.
Doug:
Oh, that was fun. Yeah.
Liz:
So, we got to learn about the community that is BOLO, helping sellers, helping sellers like, “Hey, this is selling, this is something to be on the lookout for.” And an entire community was created around that.
Doug:
Definitely with Courtney, with BOLO and same thing with the Consignment Chats, it’s like niche communities within the bigger seller community. And it’s like, we all need to think about BOLO stuff. We all need to think about consignment because at some level, you know, as sellers you’re gonna encounter that kind of stuff. I have another couple that popped up. So, these young gentlemen were so inspiring and so entrepreneurial–Yesterday’s Fits, Jesse and Austin Smith really stood out for me because they are so dialed in, in their early twenties. I don’t even wanna tell you what I was doing in my early twenties.
Liz:
Yeah, please don’t.
Doug:
You don’t wanna know <laugh> but these guys, you know, inspiring and so cool and again, entrepreneurial and doing what they love and turning that into a business and even giving us some sneak peeks into what they have coming in 2022.
Liz:
If any, reseller’s gonna listen to an episode that needs inspiration on how to grow or if they feel like they’re doing enough and they don’t know how to do more, go listen to episode 39 and listen to how Jesse and Austin grew Yesterday’s Fits to what it is today and what it will be growing into in 2022. Super cool. Like it’s not even my category that I sell in its vintage and streetwear and that’s not even my specialty. They do a lot of TikTok and Instagram, which yeah, I mean, I talk about it, but I’m not on their seriously selling. They are, which is so super cool.
Doug:
And even some of the little things that they slipped in, where it’s like, “we’re fine with making less money up front to develop a long term relationship with a customer.” Thinking that way is just like, you know, that’s the way we have to think. I always enjoy talking with Dave and Laurie of eBliss because we’ve known them. We’ve known them together for a couple years. Obviously, you know, via being in Colorado with the meetups, I kind of came tuned into what they were doing very early on and saw a lot of the growth. So did you, and just from their original warehouse to a bigger warehouse and really what was impressive is they’ve expanded. They used to be eBay only. And now they’ve expanded to multiple platforms with input from sellers. And I just love their story.
Doug:
They provide fulfillment, shipping and inventory services for online sellers. And what they admit is that “we’re not for everybody, but for certain sellers at a certain level, we can help.” And I just, you know, I love their story because they’re friends of ours. And like Dave was yesterday. I don’t know if you saw his post.
Liz:
I was gonna tell you!
Doug:
It was funny. I guess he got these two old school Walkmans somewhere and one of them had a Depeche Mode, New Order mixed tape in it. And he said, “oh this looks like this might be snoopdougie’s, old Walkman,” which is a possibility,
Liz:
Probably not far from the truth…
Doug:
I owned both of those models. And I listened to those bands and made many mixtapes.
Liz:
So, what I’m gathering from this is whenever Dave sees vintage stuff, he thinks of you
Doug:
80’S stuff, maybe <laugh>.
Liz:
Speaking of 80s and vintage, we did talk to Danna Crawford, thepowersellingmom. We also talked about WorthPoint who List Perfectly partnered with this year in episode 12. And we talked a lot about sourcing vintage and antique items. We talked about the Flip It or Skip It podcast where they talk about sourcing and pricing vintage. 80S Doug is vintage. Things that we’ve learned and more about WorthPoint, and that was back in episode 12. That was so fun. We have to have Danna back on, I’ve got questions for her.
Doug:
I obviously knew of her from eBay and from the eBay for Business podcast. I did not think that Batman would come up in a discussion with Danna Crawford, but it did.
Liz:
We talked about Batman toys. We know that Danna’s Batman was not a toy, but you need to hear the backstory of the toy story. When we interviewed Matt King at whysothriftystore and we got to talk to interview Matt while we were in Vegas, he agreed to come up and tell his story with us and share some laughs in the studio there.
Doug:
And he may be our most enthusiastic guest. Like the only one I can think of as in infectious, enthusiastic, always smiling, always laughing and just so, so happy to be there. And so excited to be at BOSS Reseller Remix and talk about all the sellers he met and how inspired he was. But we should have him back on the show.
Liz:
Oh my gosh. I know. I wanna talk to everybody again, Doug. Because they were all my favorites.
Doug:
And then of course I’d be remiss Liz if I did not mention…
Liz:
You’d be remiss. If you didn’t mention my BFF.
Doug:
Me?
Liz:
No, <laugh> <laugh>
Doug:
We both laugh!
Liz:
The other person from our group chat.
Doug:
Your good friend mertinimercantile. And obviously Mer is my wife, my lovely supportive wife, who does everything. I don’t know how stuff gets done. You know, clothes washed, Christmas shopping, done and wrapped and all that. She’s amazing. She’s my boo, my bae. And she sells online as mertinimercantile, but obviously I’m involved in that and pretty much like her shipping department. And then that was just a fun episode to have her on and get her to talk about what she does. Talk about an interesting niche. She has an interesting niche.
Liz:
Yes. So, hand created Etsy goods.
Doug:
Yes. A particular big seller item that actually she is….I’m not gonna tell you what it is, because I want you to listen to the episode…
Liz:
Episode 29.
Doug:
Episode 29. She has this particular niche item that she is the number one search for on Etsy.
Liz:
Another great and fun episode. One of my favorites because I got to learn more about mertinimercantile, about Etsy, a platform that I don’t sell on. Not because I don’t like it. It’s just because that’s just not my market and really the handcrafted goods and stopping and starting during a pandemic and through your guys’ move. And you know, she dropped some secrets about Doug Smith.
Doug:
What?
Liz:
Oh, that didn’t make it into the episode. Did it? Sorry.
Doug:
I can edit out all the secrets. And obviously that’s a story I’m familiar with. Alright, Liz O’Kane, there is a guest we have not mentioned. It is you, Liz O’Kane.
Liz:
I was a guest?
Doug:
We’ve done several Liz and Doug episodes as we do. And we don’t wanna brag, but they’re always pretty popular. Recently we did Think Like a Multi-platform Reseller where I interviewed Liz about the multi-platform reseller mindset. We did that. We’ve done our recaps…
Liz:
But my favorite, the one that we’ve done together, I think that is that I’ve referenced a lot in Facebook and when talking to other resellers, especially when they just start out…multi-platform selling is episode 11 where you and I covered all of the platforms and kind of on a light level, like what platforms are available to sell on? What can you sell on each platform? What are the fees really enjoyed doing that episode? And I learned a lot.
Doug:
Yeah. That was a good one. Episode 11, Maximize Your Selling Potential on 11 Selling Platforms. And you know, that’s something we should probably revisit now and again, because the prices change, the platforms change. But Liz also episode 9 Myths, Mysteries and Conspiracies, Truths from the Inside. That’s kind of where you interviewed me. Yes. About various eBay.
Liz:
Shenanigans.
Doug:
Shenanigans and conspiracies. That was a fun one.
Liz:
Yes. I got my aluminum foil out for that episode.
Doug:
So, Liz, a couple years ago at, and you know this because you were involved, when I was at EcommChicago, the initial item specifics challenges were going down and so dealing with that. And then my friends, I call them, Mr. And Mrs. Amazingtastestore were hanging out with me and listening to some of the interesting questions you get from sellers when you are representing eBay. You get some interesting, you always get some conspiracy questions. Like, “is it true that if I do returns, I’ll get dinged and my listings won’t show” or literally things really conspiratorial stuff like eBay satellites, things like that. But you also see a lot of like where you answer a question, you can tell the seller doesn’t believe you. And then so Mr. And Mrs. Amazingtastestore made me a tinfoil hat that I could wear <laugh> to protect me from the rays, from the eBay satellites.
Liz:
Yes, yes, yes.
Doug:
So, Liz, this is episode 46. Next week is 47. We didn’t get 52 eps in because we started, you know, a couple weeks into the year. Next year we’ll do that, but we didn’t miss a week. No, we worked through holidays. We kept to the schedule. We delivered great guests. We’ve seen awesome growth. So, congratulations. Thank you again. And congratulations. And then we had this list, and we weren’t sure we’d get to everybody, but I think we pretty much got to everybody and a little insight into our guests. We’ve got 2022 coming up next week. We’re gonna reveal our 2022 plans and talk a little bit about what we’re gonna do, what we’ll be bringing the seller community on The Seller Community Podcast. We’re gonna be bringing you more. That’s the tease. I wanna tell you everything. I’m terrible. Like I’ll buy you a gift and I’ll be like, “it’s a puppy!”
Liz:
<Laugh> here’s your gift. I hope you enjoy your puzzle.
Doug:
Yeah, exactly. <Laugh> “it’s a puppy. I hope it can breathe in that box.” <laugh>
Liz:
No, but really thank you to all of our guests and to all of our listeners for making 2021 a true success for The Seller Community Podcast.
Doug:
Yes. Thank you to all the guests, all the listeners, everybody that you know, helped push us, helped promote us, all the reviews. Thank you to List Perfectly for the support and you know, being there for us and you know, basically letting us do what we want.
Liz:
Right. <laugh>. Well, I don’t know now. You see that 2022 is coming around Doug.
Doug:
That’s right. There’s gonna be some changes!
Liz:
We’re gonna do our thing anyway. We’re gonna do it. No, but I’m excited for 2022, Doug. I mean you guys, I’m on my own now we’re gonna have to duct tape Doug’s mouth shut. We actually don’t have 2022 figured out yet. We haven’t planned anything. And that’s why we can’t say anything.
Doug:
Yeah. We’ll let you know. We’ll plan it out by next week when we record. But this was a fun recap. Nice to go back and revisit. And then like in the middle of it all, I remember some things I was like, “oh yeah, that was fun.” Or “that was cool.”
Liz:
Okay. It was all fun. And it was all cool. Now I wanna go back and listen to our…no actually I don’t want to, I do not want to go back and listen to the earlier episodes because I don’t want to listen to, you know, green Liz, not knowing how to talk into a microphone. Not that I perfected any of it.
Doug:
You’ve come a long way. Oh, you have, you definitely have your podcast voice. I think I’m the one that as traderdon pointed out, “well, Liz has surpassed you now in podcasting skill.” I’m a shadow of my former self.
Liz:
I highly doubt that, but I have learned a lot this year.
Doug:
Yes, me too. Thank you, Liz, for stroking my delicate ego. See that’s what Liz has learned this year that she has to throw me a bone every now and again.
Liz:
We gotta make Doug smile and laugh every week. The way to do that is to say, “thank you, Doug. You are awesome. And amazing.” And with that, we are gonna wrap up episode 46 and the final episode of season one of The Seller Community Podcast. Thank you for joining us this week on The Seller Community Podcast from List Perfectly where we talked to each other about everyone else.
Doug:
So, it’s technically another Liz and Doug episode. So, it should be a hit.
Liz:
It’s gonna be my favorite.
Doug:
<Laugh> next year—“Let’s go back to that last episode we did in 2021.”
Liz:
Let’s do the last episode and throw it into the archives. What do you think, Doug? I’m glad this podcast is not a video so that people can see just how silly we are when we record these podcasts.
Doug:
That is true. They can’t see their faces. You can find us at listperfectly.com/podcast. You can leave us a message or ask a question at anchor.fm/sellercommunitypodcast. Or you can email us at podcast@listperfectly.com with questions, comments, guest suggestions, requests for stickers and more. You can use the #sellercommunitypodcast or mention Liz or Doug.
Liz:
Thank you for listening. Thank you for telling your friends. We would be honored if you were to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. Let me just say Doug 2021, first year of podcasting, we have almost all five star reviews. That’s true with one, one star review and that’s okay. Let it out. Share your feelings. We’re not for everybody. We’re not for everybody.
Doug:
We’re apparently for 98% though, of people that listen.
Liz:
Yes. So, if you’re listening and you enjoy this content and you wanna let us know, please leave us a review on Apple podcasts. This does help us get found from other people in our community. And if you listen on Spotify, you’ll soon be able to leave your review there too.
Doug:
This is true. And we want your feedback too. In the unlikely event that you are new to List Perfectly, you can use the promo code podcast for 30% off starting List Perfectly or upgrading your plan. Liz:
Yes. So as a reminder, you can follow us on Instagram and TikTok. I am @coloradoreworn. Doug is @snoop.dougie and of course follow @listperfectly. And with that…
Doug:
It feels very final…
Liz:
Yes. Doug has been trying to interrupt me because he’s super excited for this part of the podcast!
Doug:
Are you ready? You always lead it in…
Liz:
All right. And with that, we will…
Liz and Doug:
See you next year!
Liz:
Or we’ll hear you next year.
Doug:
Did we get that?
Liz:
You can hear us next year.
Doug:
You can hear us. You can see us. I’m still working on Liz with a couple things. It takes about six months to convince her.
Liz:
It’s been over a year, and you have not convinced…well, okay. You convinced me for one live show a month.
