Doug:
I don’t think these ladies need an introduction. I mean, obviously, we know Katy and Vikki from the Katy and Vikki show, Theresa Cox, a 26-year eBay seller, but they’re back today to talk about version two, 2.0 BOSS Reseller Remix 2022, bigger, faster, louder, stronger, more learning, more networking, more fun. Does that cover it, ladies?
Vikki:
Oh, that’s perfect. I like that slogan.
Katy:
Absolutely.
Vikki:
I like the reference.
Theresa:
I get the reference. I get points for getting the reference.
Doug:
All right. But thanks for joining us today. And Clara and I are very excited to have you back on.
Katy:
Thank you so much for having us we’re excited too.
Clara:
Well, how many, how many times does this make us being on the podcast? I don’t, I think this might be five, or six.
Doug:
Something like that.
Vikki:
I need a trophy of some sort. I’m just saying…
Doug:
We’re talking about something…
Katy:
Vikki needs a participation trophy.
Vikki:
I do.
Clara:
I think Theresa has more, more times. I think so. Doug, what do you think?
Doug:
I think she’s at 10 <laugh> including panels and by herself. So she’s like the Steve Martin of The Seller Community Podcast.
Theresa:
I get a red jacket.
Doug:
That’s right.
Katy:
There you go.
Clara:
The velvet jacket <laugh>
Doug:
List Perfectly t-shirt and a free month.
Theresa:
Another reference that I’m very proud that I have, that I got.
Doug:
There you go. Well, thank you very much. All right. So let’s get started. Katy, for those that don’t know, what is the BOSS Reseller Remix?
Katy:
The BOSS Reseller Remix is now an annual reseller in-person conference in Las Vegas. In October. We had our first year, our first event was last October, and now we’re going into number two and it’s just an opportunity to network with other sellers, and learn from other sellers. We call it a seller-run conference. Cuz it’s all about learning from each other. Anyone who’s ever gone to an in-person event for resellers knows that the most value really does come from networking with other sellers and learning from each other. And so we really try to take that into heart when we design this conference. But yeah, it’s just, we really, we’re trying to balance it to be just loads and loads of fun with a little bit of learning in there. Okay. A lot of learning too, but definitely a lot of fun, and it’s just a four-day event. That is amazing. I think I could be biased.
Clara:
<Laugh> Of course it’s amazing. And I think I’m biased too. <Laugh> I love this. So just for our audience, just to recap a little, what does BOSS stand for and how did the first BOSS 2021 go?
Theresa:
I’m all about the acronym. I kind of stopped saying that because nobody seems to care about me <laugh> but so I, I wanted, when I wanted to create a Facebook group, I wanted to be, I wanted to have a good acronym. So my meetup group is EVIESs, which is in the east valley, innovative eBay sellers. And so I did BOSS and I, I don’t know I was Business for Online Selling Success. And it was like, I wanted a business-related group where we could talk about the business side. It’s kind of morphed into other things, which is fine. So I did the business, I don’t know. And I came up with the BOSS acronym and it’s stuck. And so, yeah, we’ve kind of built this all around. We’ve got a BOSS virtual meetup. Yeah. We have the BOSS Reseller Remix. We got the BOSS Facebook group, so…
Katy:
Well, and the Facebook group, the initial iteration of BOSS started in late 2017, right? Theresa? Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And so back in, I think it was 2019 after eBay Open 2019, they had kind of announced that there wasn’t gonna be an eBay Open 2020. And so we were super bummed about that and we just thought, you know, there really needs to be some sort of in-person seller event. And we were like, why don’t we put something on? And then everything that we really liked about eBay Open, we can kind of steal that.
Vikki:
We absolutely stole it.
Vikki:
Oh yeah. And then all the things that we kind of like complaining about, you know, and things that we think could be done better, we can like we thought to ourselves, like maybe we could make it happen and, and make it like what we wanna see in a reseller event. And not that being any particular platform specific. And so we had grand plans for like late summer 2020, we were gonna do a reseller event. And we had named it BOSS Reseller Remix. We’d already started talking about it in like, I think March or April tickets we’re going to be going on sale.
Theresa:
We were this close to starting to sell tickets.
Vikki:
We were good, I think we were a month or two away from selling tickets was originally not going to be in October. It was going to be earlier, I think in September or August. So we were like maybe two or three weeks away from putting tickets on sale and this and this little thing called coronavirus came around. Yeah. And we went, eh, that’s okay. We’re still gonna have the conference. It’ll be over in a couple of weeks. We’ll still sell tickets. We’ll just postpone the sale date
Katy:
And then everything shut down. And…
Vikki:
And then the world went to crap, as we know it.
Katy:
But we had already created the website, the logo, we’d done a lot of the premium kind of foundational work. And so when we got to early 2021, we were like, you know what, let’s just go ahead and make this happen. And that’s kind of where, so yeah. So we tried to make it happen in 2020, and then we were able to kind of see it through 2021 successfully.
Doug:
Okay. All right. And Vikki, besides the easy answer of more tacos, what’s the biggest takeaway you took from BOSS Reseller Remix 2021?
Vikki:
Oh gosh. So 2021, I wanna say our very first night, which we started the night before as we’ll do again this year with an icebreaker kind of meet and greet a cocktail reception, so to speak. And I know that Theresa and Katy and I walked into that space where we were holding this and within the first hour and a couple hundred to 200, 200 plus people showed up just for the cocktail reception. We kind of looked at each other and went, oh my God, we did it. We did it. <Laugh> we can do this. We knew people bought tickets. Of course, we knew people were showing up, but it became a reality that night before we’d even started the conference. We were like, this is a success. As far as I’m concerned, they were already, people interacting and mingling and talking. Last year, the kind of theme for our conference was community.
Vikki:
It was community, it was inclusion. And it wasn’t even a theme that we really thought of. It just kind of happened that way. It happened that it was about community and inclusion and everyone feeling welcome. And part of a community, no matter what way you presented yourself to the event, you could be a brand new seller. You could be a seller that’s been selling for 25-plus years like some of us, it didn’t matter. You belonged there. We were your people. This was your people. We all belong as part of this community. I think that there’s plenty of strife in every other world else in the country and its the world in general, that it was really nice to have this like three and a half, four-day event where it was almost like a little utopia of nice, nice people, nice people that cared about the other people that were around them. It didn’t matter what you sold. Didn’t matter what color skin you had. Didn’t matter who you voted for. That was not a topic of conversation. It was, oh my God, we all do something similar. And we’re all friends. This is great. I have a room full of people that are brand new friends and business associates. So it, that part to me was like the biggest takeaway and the biggest success of the event, because that theme was, even though it was an unconscious theme, it was very much felt by everybody there. I think,
Theresa:
Let me just say that, that very first night one of the things that Katy, Vikki, and I decided to do was to, you know, make sure that we walked up and we talked to anybody that was, might be standing alone because maybe they came alone or whatever. And, I remember there was a man sitting there and I walked over there and introduced myself and it turned out to be Kevin and Kevin didn’t even know Katy Vikki, or I, he saw somebody share an Instagram post. And he was like, Hey, that sounds good. And I don’t remember where he traveled from, but he wasn’t local. And he traveled and he came. And so we kind of made Kevin this little mini mascot because everyone knew now to talk to Kevin because Kevin was here by himself and he didn’t know anybody. And he left. And he, I mean, I talked to him obviously a lot in the conference during the conference. And that was, he was like, oh my gosh, I had no idea what I was assigning up for, but I’m so glad I came. And so that was kind of like the inclusion of making everybody feel comfortable. And I just, I just kudos to him for taking that leap. Like, I don’t know any of these people, let me just go to Vegas and find out like, that’s, that’s incredible…
Vikki:
I would never have done that. I would never have done that. I’m an outgoing person, anybody that knows me knows that. And I would never have done that. I think that’s very courageous,
Theresa:
Very courageous.
Katy:
His name might have been Kenny.
Theresa:
Oh, did I? I called him Kevin. Yes, it is Kenny. I knew that…
Clara:
Well, we have so many stories, like, Stewart White, and Kimberly Rose. So, the list keeps going and going and going. What an event that creates such a bond in our community. And again so what is different this year for BOSS Reseller Remix 2022?
Katy:
Vikki just looked at me and making…
Vikki:
You know what, because Katy is Katy. We all have our set division of labor putting this conference together. And the one thing that Katy is very good about is creating the panels and the content and having the content have continuity. And that’s, that’s her forte. So she definitely needs to speak on that.
Theresa:
Yeah, this Is Katy’s, this is Katy’s thing.
Katy:
Well, I, you know, I think last year was such a success. You know, there were very, very few criticisms and kinds of feedback. And so we’re making sure that we address all of those. But there, and they’re really just all logistical, nothing actually substantial about the event itself. So I think for this year, it’s really about not only creating an amazing event for the new people that are coming this year but also for the people who came last year, we want them to come back and feel like it’s, it was worth returning to, so we have to take that foundation we started with and build on it and bring new ideas, new kind of things. We’ve got some people that are coming back that spoke last year, but this year they’re covering completely different topics, the overarching theme of the week.
Katy:
And, you know, with kind of the way that I put these things together, it’s very organic, how it kind of comes out. And I start to realize like, oh, here’s, what’s kind of what kind of ties everything together. And so this year it’s really all about stepping back and completely rethinking what it means for you to be a reseller. Its 2022 reselling has been a thing on the internet since the nineties. There are people who have been doing it since then. And everyone can tell you that how you can be successful as a reseller is completely different than it ever was before. And so in order to be successful, you really have to be able to look at things differently, think outside the box, and commit things from a different direction than maybe you ever have before. And so we really want people to come this year and not only from the sessions they’re gonna, they’re gonna learn ways that they can do that, but also to just be inspired by other sellers.
Katy:
We have one panel I’m really excited about that is just gonna be three people that were at the event last year. And it had such a profound impact on them personally, and also professionally with their businesses that they changed everything and they’re com their, and their businesses are completely different than they were this time last year. And so we’re gonna hear it from them and get to be really inspired by them. And we get to have, you know, more representatives from more platforms. We just get it’s, it’s gonna be really exciting. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.
Doug:
Awesome. Awesome. And so, Theresa, is there anything that sticks out to you that you did last year that you’re not gonna do this year?
Theresa:
Do you mean for me personally, or as the, as the conference?
Doug:
Let’s do both, you personally and the conference?
Theresa:
Well, I think for me, I, what I didn’t get to last year and we and all three of us had this goal was to be able to like to sit and have a one-on-one conversation with everybody, a meaningful conversation. And that didn’t happen. It was just I think Katy and Vikki will agree. They are not stamping passports this year. <Laugh> it sounded great on paper, but in reality, it was like, wow, everybody was like, but I mean, I like the idea, the concept of the passport, where you have to actually go and talk to people to get your passport stamp. So, you know, definitely, I know for all three of us, we have it to make sure we talk to everybody and we’re telling everybody if, if we’re talking come up and interrupt us like we’re not making business deals and well, we might be making business deals. You never know. But anyway so that’s definitely something that I wanna change personally. Yeah. And it’s for the conference. I think it’s like, we are, we’re already doing it. We’re getting, we’re building on what we had last year. It’s gonna be bigger. We’ve got, you know, more we’ve proved ourselves. It was very successful, and companies believed in us and you know, List Perfectly and eBay and, and the Ebliss and the different sponsors that were there last year, they saw that it was an effective and successful event. And so we’re just, I mean, what am I changing this year? We’re making it bigger, better, faster, stronger <laugh>
Vikki:
With more taco trucks.
Katy:
It’s true. Honestly, everything that the changes that we need to make from last year, it really is all like logistical things, you know, like stuff like going into the closing party and while having like the red carpet live stream interviews were really fun. It also created a big bottleneck where people were waiting outside for too long. And so just like, kind of rethinking how we…
Vikki:
So we’re scrapping that part this year.
Vikki:
Yeah there’ll still be the red carpet. You’ll still get your photograph taken in front of the step and repeat sign. It’ll still be lots of fun, but we’re gonna do some things like maybe have some Vegas entertainment out in the parking lot where the people are waiting in line and making sure things move a little more smoothly, having more food trucks at lunchtime and having seat cushions. So the seats are a little bit more comfortable for people to sit on.
Vikki:
That was all…when your biggest complaint, if I could even call it a complaint that we asked at our post-conference survey to attendees when your biggest complaint is that the seats were uncomfortable. I think you’ve had a good conference. I mean, if that’s the one thing that, you know, and we can’t control that, they’re the seats that come with the venue, but we can help make them a little bit more comfortable. We heard you, we heard that…
Clara:
Did you get my concern Vikki about the taco truck…
Vikki:
And there will be two taco trucks, two Clara. I promise. I promise six trucks, in total. Two of them are taco trucks.
Clara:
Sounds all ready, okay. I’m in. Okay.
Vikki:
<Laugh> that was it. Those were the biggest complaints. We didn’t have enough, enough food trucks. One of them we had was a bit of a dud and we, and 75% of the people wanted the taco truck. Two of the three were not as great as they could have been. Yeah. So now we know.
Katy:
And Theresa is right about the whole passport thing. You know, we thought it would be a great idea if we had this passport where people would get stamped and do all this stuff…
Vikki:
And they had to take pictures with us.
Katy:
But for us Vikki and I, Katy, ours were like, come and get a selfie with us. Well, what happened is we would be trying to have, you know, real connections with people. Yeah. But everybody, you know, we were having to constantly change our attention to different people, to get these pictures taken. And it just kind of took away some of that ability to actually interact with people on a more organic level, so…
Vikki:
And I feel like not everybody got to have that, that moment to talk to us that may have wanted to. And that’s probably my biggest regret too, is I did not get to speak to every single person. I know there was at least a handful to a dozen people that I could recognize from afar, but I know I didn’t speak to them directly. Yeah. And I need to fix that this year. So, you know, if, if, if we’re there this year, if you know, not, if, when we’re there this year, if you’re there and you haven’t met me and you wanna meet me and you wanna talk to me, come get me. You know, I’m recognizable because it’s our channel that people have come through, and everybody knows who Theresa is and, who Katy is. And maybe who I am, but I don’t know you. So you need to come to me. If, if all I know is you’re in a Facebook group and your avatar is your cat and we don’t talk, I’m not gonna recognize you. Come talk to me.
Doug:
That’s me, by the way.
Vikki:
Yes, totally.
Theresa:
Cat avatars are the bane of my existence, because it’s like, it’s fine on Facebook, but you meet people. You’re like, oh, I know your name, but that doesn’t look like you <laugh> right.
Vikki:
Cause you, your brain starts to program what that little thing is that you see on the computer. And you know, I, it could be your kid, your cat, your, I don’t know, but I don’t know what you look like.
Katy:
Well, and now, now it’s like, you have, okay. Usually it’s their actual name on Facebook and then they have a username on Instagram and then they have a username on YouTube. And now we’ve got Whatnot because I know people where their name is not like any of their other platform names <laugh>. And so it’s like, I, and I’m always the worst at remembering who people are. So I feel terrible because I’ve seen their names pop up when I do a Whatnot show. And I’m like, I know somebody who knows who I am, but there’s no picture. So it’s like, oh, it’s…
Clara:
Okay. What about when you have the picture of the person that their user ID on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube is, real case, okay? Kimberly Kayarre Lee, I didn’t even know how to say hello. You know, I was like, I didn’t even know how to pronounce it. Okay. I just swear for, cause I know her, you know, but that was something that surprised me at BOSS…
Theresa:
Exactly.
Clara:
I met so many people that I knew their pictures, but I didn’t know because I knew them by their tokens or user IDs. And that was super exciting. Again, you’ve got a great event. Speaking about, you know, this incredible event, can you give us an idea who are gonna be the speakers please.
Vikki:
So we have a lot of really great speakers happening this year. Of course, we’re gonna have a panel with List Perfectly where we’re gonna be talking about some of the things that we dropped on the Katy and Vikki Show yesterday. So if you’re listening to this, when you’re listening to this, you can go find our channel and get a little teaser, right? From our last interview with Clara that happened yesterday, which was the 17th. We’re obviously gonna be there, but we have the amazing Dominique Dom Hollins coming back as our emcee. If you were at our event last year she is a powerhouse, she’s a powerhouse person, a powerhouse speaker. I wanna be her when I grow up. I love when she takes command of a room, she’s a fantastic emcee. She used to work for eBay. She is a social justice advocate and diversity and inclusion, specialist. And she is just a fantastic person. And we are lucky to have her back as an emcee. Again, this year we have the infamous Ralli Roots, Ryan and Alli Roots. Most people in the reseller community are familiar with Ryan and Alli. They will be coming back as is Callie, cuz you can’t have Ryan and Alli and not Callie<laugh>. So the three of them will be coming back and they will be speakers as well, different topics than last year. Again, we have some people coming back, but it’s entirely a different topic.
Katy:
They’re gonna be covering whatnot and it’s gonna be one of the coolest sessions ever. But yeah, definitely talking about something completely different.
Vikki:
We have Josh and Haley Vernell better known as Josh, Hairy Tornado. He does have a real name. His name is Josh and he and his wife happened to come to our conference last year as attendees. They bought tickets and came as attendees. We knew who they were, but had never met. Since we met last year we knew that we wanted to have them come back and speak. And they’re gonna be speaking about what Josh speaks about best, which is YouTube and growing a YouTube audience and YouTube channel in a very organic calculated manner. So he’s gonna be teaching all of you that wanna be YouTube stars, how to make it happen. We haveKen Gaitano who some of us may know in the seller community. He goes by the Hustlebee. He is a huge sneakerhead. Usually, we see him with his sidekick Hustler Hacks who unfortunately can’t make it to our event has a previous commitment, but Ken is gonna be coming and talking about high end sneaker sales and sneaker authentication and being a sneakerhead. And that whole division that I think some of us are afraid to get into. Yeah, we have Trish Glenn coming back, supersaletrish. Last year, if you were lucky enough to be at our event, Trish’s panel was probably one of the best of the entire event. She’s a fantastic speaker. She’s very colloquial and funny and really smart. And, you feel like you’re talking to your best friend and she’s teaching you stuff at the same time. So she’s really, really good at that, at that having that great energy and communication skills she’ll be again, teaching about something entirely different this year.
Katy:
She’s teaming up with Liz O’Kane and they’re gonna be talking about a very approachable way to start using social media, to kind of brand yourself and using like reels and…
Vikki:
Tiktok, the TikTok, the infamous TikTok that all of us old people, gen Xers and boomers are kind of afraid to really get into well. And so these two are gonna be teaching us from a starting level, how to create interesting content and how to capture those algorithms. We’re not having somebody come in that has 5 million followers already and you feel that’s insurmountable. Yeah, these are two people that are learning and building and they’re going to make their content relevant and help you to do the same thing. And then of course we have Casey Parris Rockstar Flipper. He’s coming back to moderate a panel with the ladies, Emma and Kat from Haul Sale, which is a new selling and buying platform for sellers and wholesalers. They’ll both be here talking about that. I’m gonna quickly go through the rest. We have Wade, Wade Coggins from Wades Ventures. He’s gonna be coming back and teaming up with the Man of Mystery, Jason Decent. The two of them will be doing a platform about or panel talking about different types of reselling space Facebook reselling Facebook group reselling local reselling auctions and selling without using a traditional selling platform, creating a different type of selling space for yourself and being successful in that way. We have Dani Ackerman, The Niche Lady coming back. She was there as an attendee. She’s a friend of ours who lives here in town and she is going to be moderating a panel with Josh talking about YouTube and growing a YouTube channel. Dani has a very successful YouTube channel of her own that she has grown in the last two and a half years from nothing to something enormous. She’s got this monster, she’s harnessed that algorithm and she’s gonna be helping teach how to do that. And then we have Jessica Oman. She is The Storage Warrior. She is our Canadian speaker. She has a master’s in business. She has a fantastic podcast. If you have not listened to her podcast, I highly suggest it. It is called, let me see here. The Business of Reselling. Has about four or five episodes out. And it’s a very, very interesting, conversational way to learn about the business side of reselling. She wants to be the very first reseller to do a million dollars in sales as a single woman operation. And she has a plan to get there.
Katy:
Yeah. And she has a background in teaching at a university level. So her, let me tell you, her podcast is so good and it’s so informative and it feels like you’re actually listening to it, like a real lecture at a university, but it’s not boring at all. And it completely applies to your world and your business as a reseller.
Vikki:
And then I think I can go through this real quickly, the last couple that we have. So we have Jesse and Austin Smith, they own Yesterday’s Fits. They are a fantastic couple of young men that I think have been on the podcast before.
Doug:
Yes.
Vikki:
If they have, you did the podcast last year, right? They’re brothers, they own a resale store, a thrift store right here in Las Vegas. They’re very close with Katy and they’re gonna be doing, they’re splitting up. Actually, Austin is the sneakerhead. Austin’s gonna be on the sneakerhead panel with Ken Gaitano, as well as someone from eBay’s sneaker authentication department and chair who happens to be the vice president of the fashion division of eBay. The four of them are gonna be on a panel talking about authentication and sneaker authentication. Jesse from Yesterday’s Fits will be doing a panel with Ryan and Alli Roots. They’re doing a Whatnot panel. We’ve all heard Whatnot is a big deal now, right? They’re gonna be teaching you along with the vice president of the vintage and vertical lead at Whatnot. His name is Jack. Jack Driessen is coming and he is going to be coming and sitting on that panel again, teaching you how to create a Whatnot account, how to make a good Whatnot sale, how to bring followers in, and how to make your Whatnot business successful. Of course, Clara and Amanda will be there, talking, as I said, talking about List Perfectly and some great things.
Katy:
I mean, there’s a, there’s a few, there’s a few more…
Speaker 5:
There are a few others, a handful more, I don’t wanna keep going and take up your whole thing, but all of them, all of the panels are on the website to take a look and read their bios. It’s just, it’s a wealth of information. We have some of the most knowledgeable successful people in their specific niches coming to talk about that. And to share that knowledge, I just wanna say this. We said this last year, and I wanna just reiterate, we don’t pay any of our presenters to be there. The presenters are not paid to be there. These are people that are coming to share their knowledge with the community because that’s their community too. And they’re coming and they’re not, you know, coming and, and selling a course or, you know, trying to get you to sign up for their thing. They’re not paid presenters. They’re there because they wanna be part of this community to help teach too. They are part of this community. So I think that’s important.
Doug:
Theresa, can you tell us some of the sponsors from this year’s event?
Theresa:
Of course. So if we have our primary sponsor number one LP List Perfectly my favorite crossposting tool, they are huge supporters of the community. We love and adore them. They took a risk on us last year and supported us before the event even happened. And so we appreciate that and they’re back this year. So I appreciate them. And, you know, the community loves and appreciates them. Couldn’t believe how many people were so excited to finally get to meet you. Amanda and Clara, and, you know, the faces behind List Perfectly. And so this is a great event for that. And so they’re, they’re back and supporting us, you know, 150% like they did last year. And then we have Whatnot is another big sponsor for us. This is their first year. And I think that they are kind of Katy, Katy gets the credit for this one. They kind of, you know, heard what was going on, and they jumped in. And of course, eBay is there and a huge sponsor. eBay was definitely blown out of the water by how successful this was and the event. And not only are they a sponsor, but they are also sending a ton of employees…
Speaker 5:
At least 15. It’s ridiculous.
Theresa:
And one, one, I know one senior employee is sending 15 of her people, and then you have this group of people and this group of people. And like, so there, if, so, if you are an eBay seller, I told this to three eBay sellers this week. If you’re an eBay seller and you’re having issues, or you wanna do something, you need to be at this because the people at eBay that you will talk to, this is how I made my connections with eBay face-to-face meeting…
Vikki:
They’re the people that can fix your problems.
Theresa:
So, yeah, so come and, and meet those and meet the people, the faces behind List Perfectly and Whatnot and eBay. And go ahead with the rest of them.
Vikki:
<Laugh> we have My Reseller Genie coming in for the first time. They are a reselling-specific software program for accounting and, and tax purposes. I’m interested in hearing a little bit more about it. It’s not something I’m super familiar with. I do know that we have a hole in the community now that you know, one of the ones that most of us have used for years and years and years is gone. So it would be nice to hear a little bit more about this. We have WorthPoint coming back on board. WorthPoint is a fantastic tool for researching solds and prices. And, and even further than that, like different types of you know, markings and things for antiques. And then we have Haul Sale. I mentioned them briefly before Haul Sale is a brand new growing and growing resource and platform for sellers to buy and sell alike.
Vikki:
We have Mark Tew who is Not Your Dad’s CPA. He is coming back this year, instead of doing a speech or a lecture about taxes, which although it was necessary and important information was not the best use of the time for him last year. We feel so this year he is coming back as a vendor, and he’s gonna have a table in the vendor room where you can go and ask your CPA a question, and you’re gonna have that whole three days to have real one-on-one conversations with a CPA who is a reselling expert that can help maybe answer a specific question you have about your business. And of course, you’ll, you’re probably gonna hire him by the time you walk away, because it’s hard not to, we all use him.
Clara:
<Laugh> we love Mark.
Vikki:
<Laugh> and then last but not least, there may be some more to come. But right now we can also be having Size.ly. Size.ly as a sponsor they’re integrated with List Perfectly, but they are a sponsor in their own right. For our event, Katy’s been working with Size.ly for seven, six years, and five years since they came out anyway. So Eddie is the owner of Size.ly and has always been supportive. He’s been a sponsor of the Katy and Vikki channel since we started four years ago. Yeah. They’re coming back again this year.
Clara:
<Laugh> I have to add one. Okay. Listing Party. <Laugh>
Vikki:
Oh, that’s right. If you were watching our show yesterday, <laugh> along with List Perfectly, there is Listing Party.
Katy:
Yeah. They will be added to our website as soon as we have a really cool logo to put up on there. <Laugh> cause we, yeah, they, they were definitely signed on when they were still top, top secret. Now they’re just top secret with one top <laugh> we don’t know, we don’t know all the details yet, but if anyone was watching our YouTube show and by the time this comes out, maybe you’ve, you’ve seen it. There is a little talk about Listing Party and maybe having a little something to do with virtual assistants and some higher levels of help and care coming from the List Perfectly world. So…
Vikki:
Different types of subscriptions…
Katy:
We don’t know anything about it. We don’t know everything about it. I think Clara, by the time the Remix comes, that’s, we’re gonna know everything there is to know about Listing Party. And I’m really excited.
Vikki:
As Clara said yesterday, we’ll be premiering Listing Party at the Reseller Remix. So that would be a big part of it if you’re there in person. Or if you buy a virtual ticket, you’re gonna have information before the rest of the world.
Clara:
That’s right. And ah, where can sellers find more information about the event, please?
Katy:
Honestly, I think the best place is to go to BOSS Reseller Remix on Instagram. So it’s at BOSS Reseller Remix on Instagram and then there’s our website, which is just resellerremix.com. And then there’s a link there. The tickets are available now. So if you’re just ready to buy a ticket, then go ahead and go to the website and buy your ticket. And then in the next week or so we are gonna have the full, detailed itinerary schedule for the whole week. But it does go Monday, October 10th through the 13th, which is Thursday, Monday night is just our meet and greet starting at seven o’clock Monday night, and then Tuesday registration starts at noon and it’s a half day. And then Wednesday is a full day. Thursday is a full day, and Wednesday night we all go out to Fremont Street. So there are lots of extracurricular activities that we kind of organizes. And then, of course, Thursday night is the big party, but that full detailed schedule is gonna be updated on the website within the next, I’d say like a week, week and a half. So you’re gonna wanna keep an eye there. If you wanna kind of see what exactly is gonna be happening.
Vikki:
It’s one of the nice things I will say. You know, as much as we, we stole some of the best aspects like the party and things like that from eBay Open’s format. The one thing that we provide that I have never seen provided for a reseller conference prior to the event is the detailed itinerary and schedule. You didn’t get that for eBay Open. You didn’t get that for other conferences. When you had to purchase your ticket in advance, you may know some of the people that are gonna be there in advance, but even at the eBay Open, you didn’t know you were like, I’m just going, I’m buying a ticket. I’m going. You didn’t know what you were gonna go for. We think it’s really important so that you know what you’re getting into when you’re buying a ticket to our event.
Doug:
So speaking of buying tickets, what does a ticket cost? And what’s included with your ticket price?
Katy:
Okay. So the ticket price is $345. And so that basically includes everything that comes along with going to the conference. You’re going to get to attend the conference. You’re gonna get to be there in person, and you’re gonna get to get to interact with everybody. You’re gonna get to be there to see all the speakers live and to network and to ask people questions directly. And to us, that’s like the most important part of it. And then of course you get things like a swag bag, which is gonna have some really cool stuff in it. We don’t have everything yet. That’s gonna be in the swag bag, but let me tell you what’s in there so far is already so much better than the ones that we did last year. So oh, Vikki, I mean, Vikki’s showing for those of you listening to the podcast, Vikki is showing the new eBay, the new eBay, Ikea style bags, and this gigantic eBay one, we’re gonna have one for every single person. Um, I know that the buzz has been around people saying like, how do I get one? How do I get one? Well, come to the Remix. Also all of the vendors that all the sponsors and vendors are providing amazing prizes, there’s gonna be a lot of prizes, a lot of prizes, and List Perfectly I don’t think anyone’s ever been able to top their prize giving. Last year they gave three Chromebooks. This year I think they’re doing two Chromebooks and a Surface Pro, a Microsoft Surface Pro which they’re actually gonna give out during their session, but there’s gonna be lots of big prizes like that. Lots of smaller prizes, but yeah, really,…
Vikki:
You have to be there to win them.
Katy:
Yeah, you do. You do. But honestly, the odds aren’t bad considering, you know, here in Vegas, people go play slot machines for like these crazy odds. <Laugh>, you’re gonna be there. You’re gonna be there. There’s gonna be like 400 people eligible for prizes. And there are so many freaking prizes. It’s crazy.
Vikki:
Oh, so the couple other things you get for your ticket price is you do have coffee and beverages all day. We have snacks all day that are available. You will purchase your own lunch. We will have like we said, the six food trucks there for Wednesday and Thursday, we thought it was much better to keep your ticket price affordable rather than charging you a hundred dollars more to give you a box lunch you know, this way you can budget another $10 to $15 for lunch for yourself each day, and you can choose what you want. There are so many different options, and it’s also a great way to network standing outside at the food trucks. The eating area outside is huge. There’s a place to sit inside. It’s great to network and hang out with people. The weather is gorgeous in October in Las Vegas. So you get that. And then also the night of the party itself, the last night of the party, we’re gonna have the band. We have a DJ, we have, it is fully catered. It is not a sit-down meal. It’s all picky foods, but there’s plenty of it. And then we have two cash bars as well. And by cash, we don’t mean that you have to bring cash. We just mean that we’re not buying you your booze, cause we can’t afford you people. Resellers drink!
Vikki:
Don’t forget about the meat and greet and the stuff that we do like Fremont, you know, it’s all this stuff that’s, that’s taken time to organize and put together so that all you have to do is show up and have an amazing time.
Clara:
That’s right. That’s right. And I couldn’t agree more, with the networking opportunity last year when we were waiting for the food and, and enjoyed that beautiful weather. I have to say what a moment. That one was one of my favorites and yes, the party, I have to say the barbecue that the catering that you hired for that last day was incredible.
Vikki:
Yeah, they were excellent. That is actually the Nevada Blind Center itself. They have their chefs and they do all of their in-house cooking and baking this year. You’re gonna get to see some nice snacks in the afternoon. Last year, we were limited a little bit by some COVID restrictions we had to bring in prepackaged food. We don’t have to do that this year. So you’re gonna get to see snacks will be a step up this year from last year.
Katy:
Yeah. And, they loved our food truck so much last year that the Blind Center got their own food truck and they are gonna be out there too.
Speaker 5:
And they are now encouraging other events at their facility to do food trucks as well because they liked our ideas so much.
Theresa:
And so, this is a way where the reselling community is giving back to the Blind Center. Now the Blind Center is taking the networking that they got and the ideas they got from the conference and implementing them in their business. And look, now, they don’t, now they’re a food truck owner. Like there you go.
Katy:
And it’s crazy, cuz the Blind Center’s really cool. They have a bunch of different kinds of avenues for funding that they bring in. And one of them is renting out their space for events, but they also have a really big eBay division where they sell a lot of electronics and used electronics and refurbished stuff. And they also do electronic recycling. And so like for instance, Casey, who we were just talking to yesterday, Rockstar Flipper, you know, he went there, he saw what they were doing, cuz you, you can go and get tours and we’ll have time for people to take tours if they want to, he went, looked around, saw some product that they had that they weren’t really doing much with. And he was like, Hey, can I buy that from you? And he has literally bought pallets plural from them since last year. And that was just because he went in there with his eyes open, looked around, saw an opportunity, and now he has gained from it and they’ve gained from it. And that’s the kind of stuff that happens at an event like this. You, you never know when an opportunity is gonna come up, that is going to make you money. Like seriously, it’s not all about a session that you go and sit through. It’s about relationships…
Vikki:
Relationships, relationships, and networking.
Theresa:
Yeah. And let me just say this because they’re inevitably when you post something in a Facebook group or you make a comment about, Hey, there’s this and it’s in Vegas, there’s a long list of people that say, when are you coming to main street USA when you coming to podunk Oklahoma and all this sort of stuff. Nobody’s ever coming to your town. I live in Phoenix, the fifth largest city in the country. Nobody ever comes here. If you wanna, if you want to meet and network, you need to go where the people are.
Vikki:
Vegas is a destination city. That’s why there’s a reason why this is the biggest conference location in the country. We’re very fortunate to live here and that does make it easier for us to present it to you. But it is also one of the cheapest cities to fly into. It’s one of the cheapest cities to get a hotel room at because they want you to come and spend all your money. You don’t have to lose all your money on the slot machines to come to this conference. But you can take advantage of the fact that you have lower travel costs because they expect you to do that to come here.
Katy:
Yeah. The reality is because we live in Vegas, Vikki and I that’s why it is here. If we lived in Phoenix, we’d probably be doing it in Phoenix. And so yeah, there’s never gonna be a time where we’re gonna say, let’s go do this on the East Coast because it already is an enormous task to put on a conference like this. And if we had to add onto it, travel and figure out how to do it from afar, I mean it would just be way too much, way too much, and…
Vikki:
It would not be something we could do in a cost-effective manner for everybody else.
Katy:
And keep our sanity
Vikki:
That too.
Clara:
<Laugh> that’s true. <Laugh> now Theresa. I think this is for you. There is a BOSS virtual option now, can you tell us more about it, please?
Theresa:
Well, this, this is another, you know, this was a, a brilliant idea and we’re gonna do a virtual option and there are two different virtual tickets so that you can, it won’t be live streamed. We were not gonna live stream it, but we will record it and you will have access to every speaker and every session after the fact. And so you, you know, you can’t interact with us and, and text me if you see something happening because it’s not live, but it’s an option for those that maybe are taking care of an ill parent or have physical issues that they can’t travel and all kinds of reasons. And so it’s a way for them to be part of the conference without actually going,
Katy:
Yeah, there’s gonna be two virtual levels. So one is a $50 level and that’s basically just you get access to those videos that aren’t recorded. And yes, everybody who has an in-person ticket will also have access to those videos. So if you miss a panel, you miss a session, and you get to go home and see it after. Yeah.
Clara:
Thank you. Okay. Thank you so much, especially as a sponsor and vendor, because we’re working and we get to miss so much, you have no idea how happy that makes me.
Katy:
Oh, that’s awesome. And then we also have a virtual plus option and because we’re not able to do a live-streaming version of a virtual ticket this is kind of the next best thing. And so when you get the virtual plus ticket, which is $75, you get to be in the private Facebook group specifically for the event, with all the in-person people. So part of that is you get to kind of interact with everybody and feel like you are as much a part of it as possible without actually being there. And then also, while we’re not live streaming, the entire event, I will be every day doing some live streaming with people, you know, in between sessions here and there at, out doing the extracurricular stuff. So those people only, we’re not gonna be doing it on Instagram. You know, not going to other people, other people might be doing that. So it’s not like it’s not gonna be out there, but we are gonna be specifically catering to that group so that those people get to feel like they get something a little bit exclusive. And then they’ll also be getting a small swag bag.
Clara:
Oh, wow.
Doug:
Theresa, can you tell us about the BOSS virtual meetup and how that’s gonna work?
Theresa:
You know, we wanted a way for the people that were at the conference last year to keep getting together monthly and learning and having guest speakers and kind of doing the same thing. And so we created the BOSS, virtual meetup and we meet monthly and we have different speakers and we’ve had some really, really good ones from eBay. Everybody will tell you that if you were there for the one about the store subscriptions, it was the best. Like it just blew all of our minds away. And we are having a haul sale this month and it’s supported through the eBay seller event platform. So, but we do these once a month. We are obviously not gonna have one in October and it’s just a way for us to have this community that goes on after the conference. And so we probably won’t have one for Q4, but we’ll start back up in January and we’ll do them and get people fired up and have things and learn about things and have guest speakers and all that other sort of stuff. And it, you, you don’t have to be, it’s open to everybody. The idea behind it was that anybody there’s a lot of people that don’t have local meetups in their area and they were feeling left out. And so it’s like, Hey, come join this meetup. You can enjoy the speakers. You can enjoy the camaraderie and community and learn with the rest of us and not have to worry about creating your own group or driving, you know, know an hour and a half to get to one. And so it’s it. I think it’s great. We’ve had a great response to it.
Katy:
<Laugh> and listen for anybody who maybe has, you know, missed any of those sessions. We do have a BOSS Reseller Remix YouTube channel. And currently, as of this recording, we have just one video that was put up recently. And that is the session that was all abouteBay coupons and newsletters and stores and sharing on social media, which that’s where I learned some really cool stuff on how to share eBay listings directly to my Instagram stories, which is very cool. Yeah. With the link back to your, to your eBay store. So it was, yeah, that was like, I was in the middle of the session going, trying it out and like, it was so cool. So that is actually on the BOSS Reseller Remix YouTube channel that we have, you know, one video like five subscribers so far.
Theresa:
Gotta start somewhere?
Doug:
I’ll subscribe too. So seven, maybe 10. Kim Kardashian started at one. So…
Theresa:
There you go.
Doug:
All right. Katy and Vikki, you’re locals, any high-level hotel recommendations, where would someone look?
Katy:
I mean, so everything is happening. You know, the Blind Center is where our actual venue is for the event. It is just over two miles from downtown Las Vegas, the Fremont area, and the Fremont experience. So honestly the best place to stay is really any of those hotels right there in that one area of town. And what’s great about that area is it’s very contained. You’ve got like, I don’t know, six to 10 different hotel-casinos all within the same space where you could walk out the front door and like five minutes later, be over at this other one. So you don’t need a car. If you stay in the downtown Las Vegas area, you won’t need a car. You can just take a Lyft to go to the actual event or carpool with people to get to the venue.
Vikki:
There’s a lot of carpooling.
Katy:
And everything else, the meet and greet the Fremont night, everything else takes place in that area. So you don’t have to go anywhere. It’s fantastic. If it was summertime, I’d say it was, you know, reseller summer camp. So really most people are staying at the Golden Nugget because they do have the best prices usually. Okay. But if you wanna spend a little bit more Circa is one of the newest, it’s probably the newest one in that area. It’s for 21 and older only. So if you’re somebody that wants a little bit of a nicer space, you want a rooftop pool, you don’t wanna deal with kids. And you wanna splurge a little bit then maybe you’ll go stay there, but that really all those places are gonna be fine.
Vikki:
Yeah. Circa is actually a really nice newer hotel. It’s about a year and a half, maybe two years old. Now at this point, it’s beautiful and it’s not actually a heck of a lot more than the Golden Nugget. It’s. It gets pricier when you start looking at the suites. But I mean, unless you really want a suite, you know, you can get a really good regular room.
Clara:
Okay. Now I have, I have to ask this question, okay, locals, please give us your top Vegas tips for us that are not living in Vegas. <Laugh>
Vikki:
Do not buy drinks at a bar anywhere inside a casino, sit down at a slot machine, <laugh> pay $5 and wait for the waitress to come around. That’s probably the best way, whether it’s even if it’s water, doesn’t matter. If it’s water, soda, a mixed drink, a beer, whatever, you’re gonna pay $10 and up for everything at a bar itself, which is cheap, which is more than the average neighborhood bar. So as far as cocktail drinking, that’s the best way to drink cocktails. But the other thing too, is there are these stores right on Fremont street and other places called ABC stores, which is basically just little convenience store slash liquor store. That’s where you’re gonna go in and pay normal prices for cocktails or for water or for anything like that. And you can carry, there’s an open carry rule in Las Vegas. You can, when you’re on Fremont street, walk around with a beer in your hand or a mixed drink in a mug or a cup or anything like that. They just don’t like you to have glass on the streets.
Katy:
You can bring your own. Honestly, you can bring your own from the hotel. Yeah. If you wanna stop at a liquor store or something and buy a beer, then that’s fine. I will say drinking aside, you know, you’re staying in a hotel. Usually, it’s either they don’t have a fridge at all, or you have to rent a fridge or it’s like, you touch the fridge, they charge you. So what I would say is you wanna grab whether it’s for soda or water or whatever, you’re gonna wanna buy some water at. Maybe one of those ABC stores takes one of the trash cans. There’s usually gonna be like four little trash bins in the, in the in your hotel room. Take one of those, and fill it with ice. Have that be an ice bucket to keep your cold, your stuff cold in. So you don’t have to get a fridge. Cuz I know for me, I like to have cool beverages. Speaking of beverages, you have to have to stay hydrated. We are at a high elevation in Vegas. We are very, very dry here. So you might not be used to how quickly you become dehydrated, particularly if you’re here and you’ve had a couple of drinks and you don’t even have to have a lot of drinks for you to be very dehydrated. And so what happens is you end up having the worst hangover of your entire life if you are not careful. So you wanna make sure that for every drink you have, you have a glass of water or bottled water. Cuz let me tell you, you’re gonna thank me later you’re not gonna be feeling so good if you don’t pay attention to your hydration levels.
Clara:
Top, top advice. I love it. Thank you for sharing that.
Doug:
We’ve covered a lot. We covered everything.
Clara:
We did. Good.
Doug:
Yeah, that’s true. So we’re very excited about BOSS Reseller Remix 2022, bigger, louder, faster. Thank you for joining us today. Filling us in, telling us what sellers can expect. Last year’s event was amazing. It was the first one back in a long time and it was so cool to be back in front of sellers and with sellers and seeing sellers I knew and meeting new ones. So I’m really looking forward to this again. So twice as much fun.
Vikki:
Absolutely. We can’t wait to see you. You guys.
Theresa:
We forgot one person. We forgot one big thing.
Clara:
Oh…
Katy:
What?
Theresa:
Griff. From eBay.
Vikki:
Oh yeah, Griff’s coming.
Theresa:
It’s not a secret anymore. So we can talk about it.
Katy:
The eBay for Business podcast is gonna be there and to leave his home and he’s actually gonna be there and they’re gonna record a bunch of, we enticed them in. We said just think of all the sellers you’re gonna be able to talk to and all that content you’re gonna be able to stock up on for future use. And so they’re gonna, he’s gonna be there and record a bunch of a bunch of content for the eBay for Business podcast. So we’re very excited. So that’s gonna definitely make it feel like old school eBay Open for sure.
Theresa:
Old school.
Vikki:
They’re excited. I actually got to have lunch with Griff about two and a half weeks ago, which was really nice. Of course, it had to be outside. We had lunch <laugh> and he drove, he drove me back to the campus with both windows down. I was surprised he didn’t put the top down on his convertible. He’s still very no breathing on anybody. He’s like, I’m not hugging you. <Laugh>
Theresa:
Yeah. So it, so if you’re a seller and you’re going and you have a story to tell Griff is the person and you wanna talk, you know, he loves to hear seller stories. Well, we all love to hear seller stories. Like that’s what we love. We love, you know, here on, on The Seller Community Podcast on the eBay for Business podcast, like that’s, that’s what grabs us and, and pulls us in. So don’t be shy.
Clara:
Okay. So to our beautiful audience, go and get the last ticket of Reseller Remix. Okay. No, there is just more than one, or is it?
Theresa:
We’ll never tell…
Doug:
All right. Well, anything to add Clara?
Clara:
Well, thank you. Yes. Thank you so much. Theresa, Katy and Vikki, and thank you for everything you’re doing. I cannot even imagine putting on such an incredible event and I am so in awe with the logistics, with the passion and the dedication for this event. I can’t wait to be there.
Katy:
We’re looking forward to it. So thank you so much for having us on.
Theresa:
Thank you. We appreciate it. And we appreciate you.
Doug:
Thank you. And we’ll see you in a couple months and everybody else in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada!
